TAMPA - A Hillsborough County deputy was injured as he searched a burning house for occupants this morning.
Deputy Allan Geer, 58, was released after being treated at Tampa General Hospital.
Neighbors reported hearing an alarm about 9:48 a.m. today coming from the house at 9101 Hidden Water Circle. The alarm was reported as a burglar alarm and deputies were sent to the house and saw it was on fire.
Geer saw a vehicle in the driveway and went in to search for occupants, taking his personal fire extinguisher with him. The fire department said he used the extinguisher to knock back flames during the search.
No one was inside and the owner was out of town, the fire department said.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
