TAMPA - Today's weather should resemble Saturday's with a hot afternoon in the 90s and fairly low chance for thunderstorms.

The National Weather Service says some rain should emerge from the Gulf of Mexico during the morning and drift inland by the afternoon where the rain chances creep slightly higher.

For today, folks south of the Tampa Bay area have a better chance of seeing rain while some dry air to the north limits rain chances around the Nature Coast.

That should start to change tonight and into Monday as a front drifts closer. More moisture will linger around Hernando and Citrus counties by Monday, boosting rain chances there, though the best chance for rain Monday and Tuesday will be inland.

Storms will continue forming over the Gulf at night and moving ashore during the morning before drifting inland in the afternoons.

Forecasters say if the front is close enough, there is a good chance for plenty of rain and thunderstorms north of the Tampa Bay area Monday night and into Tuesday.

As the front stays in place, rain chances are high for much of West Central Florida though the work week, possibly dropping slightly by Saturday, the weather service says. But forecast models are a little uncertain about just how much the rainfall will drop.
