A 41-year-old man was killed Saturday night when his motorcycle collided with a car that had jumped a concrete median and veered into his lane on 54th Avenue North in Pinellas County.
The collision killed Phillip L. Newcomb of St. Petersburg, the Florida Highway Patrol said.
Robert Cooper, 31 was heading west in the center turn lane on 54th Avenue North about 11:20 p.m. when his 2004 Pontiac Grand Prix drove over the center concrete median, struck a sign post, continued into the eastbound lane and into the path of Newcomb, the FHP accident report said.
Newcomb's 2007 Yamaha hit the front of Cooper's car. Newcomb, who was not wearing a helmet, died at the scene, the report said.
Cooper, of Riverview, received minor injuries. A passenger, Melissa Sarmiento, 29, also of Riverview, was not injured. Both were wearing seatbelts.
The accident is under investigation, the FHP said.
