TAMPA - A routine traffic stop Sunday netted a stolen handgun after officers spotted one of the car's occupants trying to conceal the weapon under a seat, authorities said.
The stop happened just before 3 p.m. Sunday at 15th Street and East Osborne Avenue, Tampa police said.
Officers smelled the odor of marijuana, and when a passenger from the rear seat was being pulled out of the car, the passenger in the front seat was seen pulling a Smith & Wesson 9 mm handgun from under his leg and stashing it under the seat.
The gun had been reported stolen.
Jonathan R. Yearwood, 21, 1314 E. Chelsea St., was arrested and charged with carrying a concealed firearm, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and grand theft.
He remained in the Orient Road Jail this morning. No bail was set.
