TAMPA - Busch Gardens is holding five auditions for first-time candidates for "Scareactors" to frighten guests at the park's annual Howl-O-Scream event, which will run on 17 dates this year from Sept. 25 to Oct. 31.

About 800 part-time jobs will be created for the event. Pay for beginners is $8.87 an hour, while those with one or more years of Howl-O-Scream experience will be paid $10.25 an hour.

More than 400 past participants have indicated they will try out this year, said Nancy Hutson, Busch Gardens vice president of entertainment.

"No experience is needed," Hutson said. "You should like to scare people and have fun."

Candidates must be 18 or older and register online for the auditions at buschgardenstalent.com.

The open auditions will be Sunday from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.; July 31 from 5 to 8 p.m.; Aug. 1 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.; Aug. 7 from 5 to 8 p.m.; and Aug 8, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Howl-O-Scream will run Thursday through Saturday nights: Oct 1-3; 98-10:15-17; 22-24; and 29-31. The Freaky Preview runs Sept 25-26.
