TAMPA - Police say a Georgia man came to Tampa to buy guns he planned to use to kill his ex-wife's boyfriend.
Christopher Brian Peters, 38, of Quitman, Ga., called up a Bay area acquaintance Tuesday and asked to buy a couple of guns so he could kill the man his ex-wife was dating, said Tampa police spokeswoman Andrea Davis.
The acquaintance agreed to sell the guns to Peters but secretly called the police. On Wednesday, the acquaintance set up Peters with an undercover detective to buy the $2,500 worth of weapons, Davis said.
Police say Peters told the detective he planned to kill his ex-wife's boyfriend, who lives in Manatee County, and then destroy the guns by smashing them with a sledgehammer and throwing the pieces in saltwater.
After he arrested at 1901 E. Adamo Drive, Peters confessed to plotting the crime, police said. He was taken to the Orient Road Jail, where he is being held without bail on charges of attempted first-degree murder and being a convicted felon in possession of a firearm.
