A local teacher honored as Hillsborough County's best is a candidate for the statewide honor at a ceremony to be held tonight in Orlando.
Megan Allen, a fourth-grade teacher at Cleveland Elementary School in Tampa, is among five finalists for the Florida Department of Education/Macy's 2010 Teacher of the Year award.
Allen was named Hillsborough's teacher of the year in February, which entitled her to a limousine ride to school, a four-day Bahamas trip, thousands in education scholarships and a yearlong lease of a Lexus.
The statewide ceremony will be held at 6:30 p.m. tonight at Hard Rock Live! At Universal Studios City Walk in Orlando.
