TAMPA - Former Hillsborough County Superintendent of Schools Earl Lennard has joined the pool of applicants, now 20 in all, seeking the post of elections supervisor.
Since retiring from the school superintendent's job, Lennard, a Republican, has flirted with entering politics, including briefly entering and then withdrawing from a state Senate race in 2005. He now works as an education consultant.
Another new applicant is Deborah Cope, a local Democratic Party activist, information technology consultant and former candidate for the state Legislature.
The other applicants are David F. Agliano, Daniel W. Ballister, William G. Burda, Victor D. Crist, Janet L. Dougherty, Liana F. Fox, Lamont M. Guthrie, C. Chris Hart III, Robert K. Henriquez, Craig M. Latimer, Lee P.Nelson, Arthur Richardson III, Joseph W.J. Robinson, Gary A. Santti, Rosemary Goudreau Stang, Allen J. Strauss, Michael K. van Hoek and Shawn J. Woodin.
The post became vacant in June with the death of Phyllis Busansky.
Gov. Charlie Crist will decide who will serve, at least until the 2010 election.
