TIERRA VERDE - Fort De Soto Park is about to become cleaner.
The nonprofit group Tampa Bay Watch is hosting a midsummer cleanup at Fort De Soto Park from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday in partnership with WTSP, Channel 10, and Keep Pinellas Beautiful.
The land-and-sea cleanup will include kayakers who can pick up marine debris and beach walkers who can gather litter left behind by Fourth of July revelers and others.
It's a way to help the staff get the park's natural environment back in order, said Bay Watch spokeswoman Rachel Arndt.
Volunteers will meet at Shelter 11 near the fort and Gulf Pier and are encouraged to wear closed-toe shoes, a hat, garden gloves, sunscreen and bug spray, and to bring water.
Tampa Bay Watch is dedicated to protecting and restoring the marine and wetland environments of the Tampa Bay estuary.
