It looks like rain will be around the Tampa Bay area through the afternoon and probably into the drive home for most folks.

Storms stretch more than 120 miles into the Gulf of Mexico from Tampa and they're heading east. The storms are moving over downtown St. Petersburg and Tampa and pushing east over Brandon and Ruskin.

Most of rain in the Gulf is falling at less than a half inch an hour but some of the storms moving over land are stronger and could produce some heavy downpours.

The National Weather Service does not anticipate any severe storms to emerge.

Most of the rain is moving at about 20 mph.

Forecasters expect the rain to taper off late in the evening before kicking off another round in the early morning.

Rain so far around Tampa has been spotty and light, though MacDill Air Force Base got about an inch so far today.

The heavier rain was to the north where the airport in Brooksville recorded nearly 2 inches today following more than an inch on Wednesday. The weather service lifted a flood advisory issued this morning for Hernando County.
