A 31-year-old Tampa man sliced a pit bull's ear off with a machete, Hillsborough County Animal Services said.
Clopinel Pascal was charged with animal cruelty. He was arrested Friday afternoon at his home at 8506 N. 17th St.
Investigators say he struck the white female pit bull with the machete, cutting the animal's neck and slicing its ear off.
A witness told investigators the dog was walking on the street when Pascal called the dog into the yard, closed the gate, picked up a pipe and started beating the dog with it, "laughing the whole time,'' according to an arrest report.
Pascal admitted to investigators he struck the dog with the machete, the report states.
Pascal remains in Orient Road Jail. His bail is $2,000.
