TAMPA - Though an autopsy on an 11-year-old girl who died at a city pool was completed Thursday, there will be no results for at least six weeks, the Hillsborough County Medical Examiner's Office said.
Britney Mills was among a group of children from the Jackson Heights recreation center who were swimming at the Cyrus Greene Community Center pool Wednesday. She appeared to be swimming fine, but one of the three lifeguards on duty suddenly noticed her at the bottom of the pool, police said.
Lifeguards and paramedics performed CPR for about 30 minutes, but Britney was declared dead at St. Joseph's Hospital shortly afterward.
The medical examiner's office is awaiting the results of a microscopic exam of her cells and a toxicology test, said operations manager Dick Bailey.
The tests are routine and usually take six to eight weeks to complete, he said.
