Those who fear a national ID card either have something to hide or have been reading "1984" again.
Our government has lots of info on most of us, as do your cell phone companies. Ever check your credit? There are mistakes you could drive a truck through.
I would love to see a real ID put into place, something that proves you are who you say you are and it be verifiable, unlike our present system of hundreds of IDs that are not proof of anything.
What did the 9/11 terrorists use? Driver's licenses, lots of them.
If we had one ID, with DNA as a backup on file, it would be a lot harder for terrorists, drunk drivers and cheats to ply their trade.
A body in the morgue with no identification? Simple. Case solved. A paternity in question? Simple.I have been fingerprinted, had credit checked, had references called, had resumes double-checked, and been required to show federal tax returns, a birth certificate and my driver's license - all just to get a job or rent an apartment.
I don't complain, but then I have nothing to hide.
