PORT CHARLOTTE - A Port Charlotte woman who is nearly eight months pregnant has been charged with possession of oxycodone and drug paraphernalia.
Reanna Lynn McElhinny, 29, and her husband, John Thomas McElhinny, 32, were arrested Wednesday after a search of their home in the 22000 block of Midway Boulevard, the Charlotte County Sheriff's Office reported.
John McElhinny faces the same charges as his wife, as well as violation of probation for grand theft. Reanna McElhinny was also charged with violation of probation for cocaine possession.
Detectives said they observed fresh track marks on the inside of both of Reanna's arms. In the arrest reports, detectives said the Florida Department of Corrections recommended that Reanna McElhinny be held without bail, alleging that she is endangering the life of her unborn child with drug use. Both McElhinnys remain in the county jail without bail.
Sheriff's detectives were asked by the state to assist in checking on the McElhinnys for possibly violating probation.
The search found oxycodone pills, spoons with residue, used needles with residue, a straw, a pocket razor cutter and numerous empty prescription bottles, the report said.
