Fourth-graders know they're cool. Now there's a contest to let them share their greatness.
The author of "Too Tall Alice" (Great Little Books, $15.95) is asking kids to boost their self-esteem by sharing three things they like about themselves in a short essay. The "Stand Tall With Too Tall Alice" contest expands on the messages within the children's book, written by Barbara Worton and illustrated by Dom Rodi.
The story follows Alice, a fourth-grade girl four inches taller than any of her classmates, as she discovers that she can appreciate her distinct physical traits and the differences of others.
Seventy-five winners will be selected and will receive a copy of the book, a bookmark and an "I'm just right for me" wristband.
Rules for the contest are available at www.tootallalice.com/contest .html. Entries, which must be signed by a parent, guardian or teacher, are due by Aug. 31.
