TAMPA - One of the six people Gov. Charlie Crist interviewed in Tampa on Friday will likely be the next Hillsborough County supervisor of elections.
Crist said that "more likely than not," the next elections supervisor will be among the group he interviewed. He gave no hints on who has the inside track. He said he would make a decision early next week. The six were chosen from a pool of 22 applicants.
"I was real impressed with all of them. They all showed concern over the tragic loss of Supervisor of Elections Phyllis Busansky and concern about the transparency of the office," Crist said.
Crist met for about 10 minutes with each of the applicants in a closed boardroom at Tampa International Airport. The applicants are:
•Former state Rep. Sandy Murman (Republican)
•State Sen. Victor Crist (Republican)
•Former Hillsborough County Commissioner Chris Hart (Republican)
•Bob Henriquez, Department of Children & Families circuit administrator for Pasco and Pinellas counties (Democrat)
•Craig Latimer, Hillsborough elections office chief of staff (Democrat)
•Retired Hillsborough Superintendent of Schools Earl Lennard (Republican)
Busansky, a Democrat, was elected in November and died in June. Her appointed successor will fill the position until 2010, at which point he or she may run for election.
