Nearly a dozen officers combed an exclusive Bayshore Boulevard neighborhood this morning, searching for a possible gunman after getting a call from a man who said he was shot.
Eight officers, two canine units and the Tampa Police Department helicopter searched for about 30 minutes near Bayshore and Gunby Avenue about 5 a.m. and found nothing, said police Sgt. Buddy Brogdon.
A 24-year-old man called 911 at 4:57 a.m., saying he'd been shot. Paramedics treated the man at the intersection of Gunby and Bayshore and took him to Tampa General Hospital where a detective questioned him.
Brogdon said investigators are not sure if the man was shot or stabbed in the right shoulder or the location where he was injured. He has not provided identification.
The officers searched the neighborhood as a precaution.
"It was just to be sure there was no shooter in the neighborhood," Brogdon said.
