ABC's Bob Woodruff has returned to Iraq for the first time since he was nearly killed there more than three years ago.
Woodruff is on a reporting trip that left Washington with Mike Mullen, the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff. Woodruff is staying on U.S. military bases while he is in Iraq.
Woodruff suffered a serious brain injury from a roadside blast in Iraq in January 2006. He returned to ABC News 13 months later after an arduous recovery.
He says in a blog posted Monday that he owes it to his family, friends and colleagues to take a much safer route and stay off the streets this time.
He's been reporting extensively on the plight of people injured in Iraq, and will continue that while there.
