Edward Knecht advocates a personal graduated income tax for Florida (Letters, July 7), but there are two things wrong with this thinking:
• The Constitution of Florida forbids it. It would take an amendment for which you would never get enough signatures to place it on the ballot.
• The Legislature could place it on the ballot; however, the surest way I know for a legislative candidate to lose their election is to advocate such a tax, and the same holds true for those already in office campaigning for re-election.
