LAND O' LAKES - Pasco County deputies are looking for a man they say knocked a sheriff's sergeant unconscious after a traffic stop this morning.
Sgt. Bill McVey is recovering at a local hospital, the sheriff's office said.
McVey stopped a vehicle in The Groves subdivision in Land O' Lakes about 2:30 a.m.; he suspected the occupants of prowling. McVey recognized one of the men in the car, Anthony Ray Casey, 21, of Land O' Lakes, who is wanted on outstanding warrants, the sheriff's office said.
As McVey tried to arrest him, Casey hit him on the head, knocking the deputy out, the sheriff's office said. Casey and another occupant in the vehicle ran into the woods.
The sheriff's office is looking for Casey and Michael William Ross, 21. Ross, of Dade City, is suspected of prowling and the sheriff's office is seeking Casey on a charge of battery of a law enforcement officer as well as two violation of probation warrants.
