CLEARWATER - Two men accused of having sex with a 12-year-old girl are Mexican immigrants who live at the apartment where the assaults occurred, according to Pinellas County jail records.
Abel Calihua-Macuixtle, 30, and Victorino Panzo-Panzo, 27, were arrested Monday evening. Each is charged with one count of lewd or lascivious battery, which is filed whenever a defendant is said to have had consensual sex with a child of the victim's age.
The girl, whose name isn't being released due to the nature of the crime, was reported as a runaway Sunday. She consented to sex in exchange for money, said Elizabeth Watts, Clearwater's public safety spokeswoman.
The girl has been reunited with her family.
According to arrest affidavits and jail records, Panzo-Panzo had sex with the girl at an apartment complex on Drew Street at 10:30 a.m. Monday and Calihua-Macuixtle had sex with her 30 minutes later.
A third man, Jorge Temoxtle-Calihua, 23, was charged with obstruction after he gave police a false name, Watts said.
On Monday evening, detectives said they thought four or more men would be arrested, but only two have been taken into custody, Watts said. Today, however, city spokeswoman Joelle Castelli said more arrests are imminent.
At their first appearance this afternoon, Pinellas Circuit Judge Paul Levine kept the bail at $10,000. If they meet bail and have contact with the victim, they will be put back in jail, Levine warned.
Neither man has a significant amount of money, officials said. Both will be represented by the public defender's office.
