Sports anchor Al Keck says he is leaving WFTS, Channel 28, when his contract ends in August.
"There are other things out there that I want to pursue," Keck said in a telephone interview today. "There are fun things that I can't talk about yet.'
Keck says the decision to leave is a mutual one. "I wasn't seeking a new contract and they didn't offer me one," he said. "And it's the first thing that we've agreed on in awhile."
WFTS General Manager Rich Pegram could not be reached for comment.
Keck said his last day will be after Aug. 31. He said local television sports coverage has changed dramatically since he came to the Tampa-St. Petersburg TV market in 1988.
"And it's not been for the better," he added.
Keck, 54, worked at WTSP, Channel 10, for 12 years. He joined "ABC Action News" on WFTS in 2001.
He said there are some interesting opportunities both in television and outside of television but declined to elaborate.
