TAMPA - Tampa police are looking for a man with a sawed-off shotgun who robbed a 7-Eleven store often frequented by police early Sunday morning.
The robber entered the store, at 3101 Gandy Blvd., at 1:41 a.m. and demanded money from the clerk. The clerk gave him the money, and the robber fled in a gray 1990s four-door Toyota Avalon with an oval white sticker on the bumper, police spokeswoman Andrea Davis said. No one was injured in the robbery, she said.
Tampa police said it's possible the suspect was watching the store carefully. The store is normally busy, but at the time of the crime, only two employees were inside.
"Definitely he seems desperate," Det. Melinda Rewis said. "Desperate for the money and not worried about using the weapon at all, not worried about pointing the weapon, at least at the victim."
The robber was described as a white male, between 50 and 60 years old with a stocky build. He was between 5 feet 6 inches and 5 feet 8 inches tall, weighed about 200 pounds and had salt-and-pepper hair and a scruffy beard, Davis said.
Anyone with information should call the Tampa Police Department at (813) 354-6600.
