U.S. Marshals have arrested a man accused of knocking a Pasco sheriff's sergeant unconscious Monday during a traffic stop.
Marshals tracked down Anthony Ray Casey, 21, at a Tampa hotel this morning around 2:30, according to sheriff's office spokesman Kevin Doll.
He was arrested on outstanding warrants and is in the process of being booked into the Orient Road Jail. He will be interviewed about the battery incident.
About 2:30 a.m. on Monday Sgt. Bill McVey stopped a vehicle in The Groves subdivision in Land O' Lakes, suspecting the occupants had been prowling. He recognized Casey and tried to arrest him but was hit on the head and knock out, authorities say.
Casey and another man ran into the woods.
McVey was taken to a local hospital but has since been released and must undergo more testing, Doll said.
Deputies are still looking for 21-year-old Michael William Ross, 21 of Dade City, thought to be the other occupant of the car. He is suspected of prowling.
