Florida's stimulus money

How is federal stimulus money really affecting Florida? Agency directors from across the state gave Gov. Charlie Crist an update Wednesday. Here are some of the highlights, by-the-numbers:

$15.3 billion

Total stimulus funds coming to Florida over three years

$2.2 billion

Portion pumping into Florida's education system

K-12 teaching jobs saved as a result

Spent to extend unemployment compensation benefits and boost payments by $25 per week

Unemployed Floridians who have received enhanced benefits

Estimated benefit to the economy for every $1 paid in unemployment compensation

Awarded for Energy Star appliance rebates
$1 billion

Obligated so far for road and related projects across the state

$194.4 million

Portion obligated for road projects in Hillsborough, Pasco, Pinellas, Hernando and Citrus counties
$2.5 billion

Additional stimulus dollars that Florida is seeking to build high-speed rail, primarily to link Tampa, Orlando and Miami
