TGH may relocate, revamp rehab center

TAMPA - A rehabilitation center at Tampa General Hospital may be ready for an off-campus redo.

Tampa General spokesman John Dunn said hospital officials want to upgrade and modernize the facility, which provides inpatient, outpatient and pediatric rehab services for patients undergoing treatment for pain and brain or spinal cord injuries.

The 59-bed facility is housed in a building on the hospital campus at 6 Tampa General Circle.

A move is necessary, Dunn said, "because we want to be able to upgrade, modernize and bring in some of the latest thinking in rehabilitation, and that would be hard to do on campus."

Dunn said hospital officials are considering a number of building sites in the Tampa Bay area, including one near Brandon, but declined to provide specific site locations, size or design details.

"We haven't even gotten to the design stage yet," Dunn said. "We are still evaluating all the factors and what it will take to have a more modern, state-of-the-art building."
