TAMPA - A 61-year-old Tampa man driving a motor scooter Wednesday on Himes Avenue was seriously injured when his vehicle was struck by a GMC pickup, Tampa police say,

The crash occurred shortly before 11 a.m. Wednesday at Himes and Cherry Street.

Carmine Dipaolo, 61, of Tampa, was driving a 2006 Vespa about 40 mph south on Himes when he was struck by a 2004 pickup driven by Phillip Muratte, police say.

"Muratte failed to see Dipaolo traveling southbound and drove straight across Himes violating Mr. Dipaolo's right of way," a police report states. "Mr. Dipaolo struck the right side of the truck receiving serious injuries. He was transported to St. Joseph's Hospital and treated for several broken bones. Muratte was cited for violation of right of way."
