St. Petersburg police say there have been five burglaries to churches from June 25 to July 12, and because they are similar in nature to three previous church burglaries, investigators say they are entertaining the theory all eight are the handiwork of the same man: Robert Earl Warren, a 42-year-old transient.
Burglary detectives have filled out an arrest affidavit charging Warren in a break-in at the Mount Pilgrim Missionary Baptist Church, and he is a suspect in the other seven crimes, police spokesman Bill Proffitt said.
He has not yet been arrested, Proffitt said.
The five most recent burglaries occurred in the south and west sections of the city, police said. As with the three prior break-ins, cash or electronics were stolen, they said.
According to police, here are the crimes and dates:
March 30 - New Life Powerhouse Church of God, 3711 Fifth Ave. N.
April 18-19 - Temple of Love and Healing, 3700 40th Ave. N.
May 4 - Lion of Judah Ministry, 3251 Third Ave. N.
June 25 - Fifth Avenue Baptist Church, 4901 Fifth Ave. N.
July 1-2 - Cornerstone Community Church, 6745 38th Ave. N.
July 10-11 - Mount Pilgrim Missionary Baptist Church, 4000 Fifth Ave. S.
July 5-11 - Anointed Church of the Living God, 4834 18th Ave. S.
July 11-12 - Albright United Methodist Church, 2750 Fifth Ave. N.
