TAMPA - Bayshore Boulevard will be losing its thump-thump this summer.
Starting Saturday, the Hillsborough County Public Works Department will begin repairs on the northbound and southbound lanes of the road between the Davis Islands Bridge overpass and Rome Avenue.
County spokesman Steve Valdez said the purpose of the project is to improve the rideability of the roadway because the concrete slabs have settled unevenly over the years.
"We hope to be finished before school starts," Valdez said.
The road will be closed in 2,400-foot sections as the high point of each joint in the concrete is shaved off and filled. Work will be done on four consecutive weekends, weather permitting, from 8 a.m. through 8 p.m. Neighborhood roads that connect to Bayshore might be closed for about 15 minutes at a time, Valdez said.
Motorists should expect traffic delays and are encouraged to use alternate routes when possible.
The project is expected to cost $400,000 and will be funded through the Public Works' County Roadway Resurfacing Fund.
