TAMPA - It began with a prayer and ended a block away with candles on a sidewalk, the tiny flames twinkling in the breeze. More than 70 Jackson Heights residents gathered Thursday for a vigil in memory of Britney Mills, the 11-year-old girl who died at a city pool on July 9.
They remembered her as a high-spirited girl who was well-liked.
The ceremony started with a prayer in front of the Jackson Heights NFL Youth Education Town Center, then moved to the front of the Millses' apartment. At the end of the short ceremony, church leaders asked mourners to leave the candles burning in front of the family's doorstep to symbolize the community coming together.
