WELLINGTON - The baby of a Florida woman with swine flu has died after hospital officials say doctors tried to deliver her.
A news release from the Wellington Regional Medical Center says the mother, Aubrey Opdyke, remains in critical condition. Doctors placed her in a coma to give the 26-week-old baby maximum oxygen as the mother struggled with the virus.
Though the baby was not due for another 14 weeks, the press release said doctors had made the decision to deliver the baby this morning.
No further details were released.
Health officials say more than a dozen people have died in Florida from swine flu and more than 2,100 have been sickened since the outbreak emerged.
