TAMPA - The Tampa Port Authority staff will recommend a reduction in its portion of the Hillsborough County property tax for 2010 from $0.195 per $1,000 valuation to $0.1925 per $1,000.
That would provide the port an estimated $12.8 million in ad valorem tax receipts next year, compared with estimated 2009 receipts of $14.8 million.
For fiscal 2010, Hillsborough property values are expected to decrease $10.1 billion, to $73.4, billion because of the declining economy.
The port uses the tax receipts to build, maintain or repair its infrastructure, including dredging berths and acquisition of property for construction of cruise terminals.
The port authority board will consider the recommendation at its monthly meeting at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday at 1101 Channelside Drive.
The port's portion of the process is scheduled to conclude Sept. 24 with a final hearing before the proposal is submitted to the county commission.
The port authority has either decreased or held its millage rate constant since 1994.
