Two University Community Hospital workers were arrested Friday night and charged with second degree murder in the death of a man who was beaten and stabbed outside the Ascott Apartments complex just north of the hospital, authorities said.
Joseph Rodriguez Rivera, 20, and Luis Omar Morales Cora, 21, both work as floor technicians at the hospital. They live in neighboring apartments at 3021 Gates Drive.
Both are charged in the death of Anthony Chatterton, 40, who died April 17 after a late-night confrontation at the entrance to the apartment complex off Bruce B. Downs Boulevard, according to the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office. The suspects confronted the victim with allegations that he had stolen some of their property, deputies reported.
A third person believed to have been involved in the incident has yet to be arrested.
Rivera and Morales Cora were being held without bail Saturday at the Orient Road Jail.
