A man suspected in a shooting in Fort Meade early this morning has been released on his own recognizance while authorities figure out whether he should be charged with a crime, according to the Polk County Sheriff's Office.
The man's identity was not released.
Deputies heard shots about 2:40 a.m. today near 4th Street S.W. and French Avenue in Fort Meade at a bar. They found a crowd gathered around Cortez Hodges, 24, of Bowling Green, who was in the road shot in the back, the sheriff's office said.
Deputies, a K-9 unit and a helicopter searched the area and the suspect was arrested. The person has been questioned and released without any charges being filed.
Hodges was taken to Tampa General Hospital with injuries the sheriff's department said were not life-threatening.
Prosecutors are expected to decide whether the suspect should be charged.
