TAMPA - Investigators believe someone set a fire in a city storage building early this morning that caused at least $20,000 in damage.
The fire was in a warehouse used for storage by several city departments at a city water treatment plant at 17101 Bruce B. Downs Blvd.
A resident in a nearby apartment complex reported the fire about 12:30 a.m. today, saying flames were coming from a large warehouse on the property near Interstate 75, Tampa Fire Rescue said.
The first crews saw flames coming from the building and sent in a second alarm. The fire was under control about 1 a.m.
Investigators said the fire appears to have started near two trailers in the warehouse. They have not determined the contents of the trailers but did say someone set the fire.
The fire did not interfere with the treatment plant's operation.
In all, 39 firefighters from stations in New Tampa, Tampa Palms, North Tampa and Sulphur Springs responded to the blaze.
