Slain couple's daughter to care for 13 children

PENSACOLA - The adult daughter of a slain Florida couple known for adopting 13 special needs children says she's moving into her parents' home to take care of the children.

Ashley Markham told the Pensacola News Journal that she and her husband plan to raise the children as their own. The 26-year-old says it was her mother's wish.

A message was left by The Associated Press Sunday with her attorney.

Byrd and Melanie Billings were shot to death in their home west of Pensacola earlier this month in a break-in. Eight people have been arrested in the case.

Once the scene of a brutal crime, Markham says the house has new carpet and doors. The locks were changed and a security gate was going in. She says the children were anxious to get back home.
