A 36-year-old Largo man was drunk when he turned his Ford Escort in front of a Pinellas sheriff's cruiser at a Largo intersection this afternoon, and the two vehicles collided, the Pinellas County Sheriff's Office said.
Steven Pate, of 1306 Harbor Hills Drive, was charged with drunken driving, driving drunk and causing property damage, driving drunk and causing bodily injury, and driving while his license was suspended or revoked, the sheriff's office said.
Pate refused to submit to a breath test, the sheriff's office said.
At about 2:30 p.m. this afternoon, Pate was driving east on Walsingham Road when he turned the Escort in front of a sheriff's cruiser while trying to turn onto Vaughn Road, the sheriff's office said. The cruiser struck the Escort on the Escort's front right side.
Deputy Kelly Antolini, 32, who was at the wheel of the marked Dodge Intrepid, suffered non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to an area hospital, the sheriff's office said. Pate was treated at Bayfront Medical Center and then booked into the Pinellas Jail.
Richard Brennan, a 39-year-old Largo man riding as a passenger in the Escort, refused treatment and later drove himself to a local hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.
