Americans love ice cream - and designating days and months to honor the people and things we hold dear. So it's fitting that we recognize our love for the sweet, creamy frozen concoction with a month of its own.
Since 1984, we've recognized July as National Ice Cream Month, and the third Sunday of the month as National Ice Cream Day, thanks to former President Ronald Reagan.
On Saturday, Datz Delicatessen & Foodie's Market, 2616 S. MacDill Ave., did its part to honor the delightful treat with a free ice cream social, complete with samples and entertainment.
If you missed it, don't fret. Today - National Ice Cream Day - you can head to the Museum of Science & Industry for some free Blue Bell samples and watch a demonstration of the science of freezing.
