TAMPA - Two people died following unrelated shooting incidents this morning in Hillsborough County, deputies say.
The first shooting occurred at 2:17 a.m. in the parking lot of Sin City, a nightclub at 56th Street and Hillsborough Avenue, according to a sheriff's office news release. There was a fight in the parking lot, and gunshots ensued, deputies say.
Deputies didn't find victims when they arrived, but they did find spent shell casings and interviewed witnesses. At 2:47 a.m., they learned about a man suffering from a gunshot wound at 2218 E. Chelsea St. The man, identified as 24-year-old Marcus Wesley, was found in the back of a gray Chevrolet Impala. He died at the scene.
Shortly after, investigators were contacted about a second gunshot victim, who was taken to St. Joseph's Hospital in a private vehicle. The 22-year-old man's name has not been released. He had been shot in the leg and is in serious condition.
Deputies say both victims were involved in the nightclub shooting. They had been in the nightclub's parking lot, fought with one or more people and were shot, according to the news release.
"Detectives are working to compile a description of the suspect(s) and any possible vehicle involved," the release states.
Those shooting victims are friends, and neither lives at 2218 E. Chelsea St., sheriff's spokesman J.D. Callaway said.
A person inside the home at 2218 E. Chelsea St. declined to comment today. Connie Braswell, who lives nearby, said the people at the home were friends of Wesley, who had gone to a birthday party at Sin City.
Deputies say they have received more than two dozen calls for service at Sin City since March.
At 2:51 a.m., deputies responded to a report of gunshots outside an apartment at Lexington Court and 14th Street in North Tampa. A 30-year-old man was found in the roadway with multiple gunshots to the upper torso, deputies say.
He was taken to St. Joseph's Hospital in critical condition and died at about 5:30 a.m. Deputies say that when they stopped a vehicle suspected of being involved in the shooting, the driver tried to run but was taken into custody.
The victim's name has not been released pending notification of relatives.
An investigation is ongoing.
