I write as an immigrant of 12 years from Britain, who recently became a citizen. I love this country, but its health system in no way compares to the National Health system of Britain, which I always found to be excellent. America's health system is at the mercy of private insurers, who have no business dealing with people's health because they work solely for profit, not for a good health result. And the cost ...!
Having seen what has happened to various friends over here who have had the misfortune to suffer serious illness, I have also come to doubt that any private insurance scheme covers the costs of such an illness and treatment - hence the huge amount of health/treatment bankruptcies in America.
