LAND O' LAKES - A 16-year-old boy sought in the slaying of a 60-year-old man last week has turned himself in to face a second-degree murder charge.
Corey Lindsey Jr., of 39600 Lincoln Ave., Zephyrhills, turned himself in at the Land O' Lakes Detention Center at about 9 p.m. Monday and was taken to the juvenile detention center, according to sheriff's office spokesman Kevin Doll.
Lindsey is accused of fatally shooting Donald Watts of Zephyrhills.
"Watts purchased some crack allegedly from Lindsey," Doll said. Instead, Doll said, "it was bread. He went back to confront him and was shot and killed."
Doll said it wasn't clear if the bread was small hardened pieces but it somehow looked like crack cocaine.
"Selling fake drugs is nothing new," Doll said, adding that he's heard reports of dealers trying to pass off pieces of soap and erasers as crack.
On July 14, Watts' body was found in his car on the railroad tracks at the intersection of Sixth Avenue and Airport Road in Zephyrhills.
Investigators say he was shot nearby but lost consciousness while he was driving over the tracks.
