1 driver dead, 1 injured in S.R. 54 crash

ZEPHYRHILLS - Two pickups collided Wednesday night, killing one driver and critically injuring the other.
Anthony Glenn Smith, 46, of Zephyrhills, was driving west on State Road 54 near Foster Lane just before 10:30 p.m. when he crossed the center line into oncoming traffic, according to the Florida Highway Patrol. The driver of the second pickup, Kelley Sypher, 34, also of Zephyrhills, tried to avoid the collision but was struck, troopers said.
Smith died at the scene. Sypher was airlifted to St. Joseph's Hospital in Tampa with critical injuries, the highway patrol said.
Toxicology results are pending.
