Jaywalkerstruck, critically injured

LAND O' LAKES - A 21-year-old Land O' Lakes man was being treated for serious injuries at a St. Petersburg hospital Friday and a man accused of striking him with his truck faces DUI charges.

Shortly after 1 a.m. Friday, Dallas Jaamal Young of Land O' Lakes was walking north across State Road 54 near the Suncoast Parkway when he stepped into the path of a pickup driven by Maurice John Brosnan of Port Richey, according to a Florida Highway Patrol report.

Young was listed in critical condition at Bayfront Medical Center, a hospital spokeswoman said Friday.

Brosnan, 73, was driving his 2006 Ford pickup east on S.R. 54, where he struck Young and went off the road and into a utility pole, a report states. Brosnan wasn't injured.

Troopers said Young failed to use a crosswalk while crossing the road and improperly crossed S.R. 54.

Troopers arrested Brosnan, of 10521 Scenic Drive, on charges of driving under the influence, DUI with property damage and DUI with serious bodily injury and refusal to submit to a breath test.

He was released from the Land O' Lakes Jail on Friday morning after posting $5,650 bail.

The crash remains under investigation.
