TAMPA - Code enforcement agencies will sweep Hillsborough County on Tuesday, collecting signs illegally placed in public rights of way.
Hillsborough County, Tampa, Plant City and Temple Terrace code enforcement officers will take part in the "Sign Blast," along with workers performing community service under Sheriff's Office supervision.
The teams will gather at 9 a.m. at the county Public Works Central Service Unit, 4115 S. 66th St., and regroup for a final sign count at 2 p.m.
Code enforcement officials say the so-called "snipe signs" are a nationwide problem. The signs distract motorists, litter highways and neighborhoods, and during storms can become wind-borne projectiles.
Last year, Hillsborough County Code Enforcement alone removed 47,000 snipe signs from roadways in the unincorporated areas of the county.
