Finally our local government is making common-sense decisions. The Tampa Sports Authority made a decision not to give the front-runner for the vacant executive director post a $10,000 stipend to help pay his mortgages. This man is already making a six-figure income and wanted help from the taxpayer. Two members of the three-member executive committee voted to not give him this money. To them I say well done.
Finally, Hillsborough County Administrator Pat Bean came to her senses and retracted most of the raises she gave to six top aides. Instead of the up to 15 percent raises she gave them for taking on more responsibilities, she decided, after being rightfully scolded by the commissioners, that this was not the right thing to do in this bad economy. Instead, they will get a 2.25 percent increase. This is fair.
Let's keep this common-sense ball rolling until this economy gets back on track.
