PLANT CITY - Eastside Baptist Church is organizing an old-time sing-a-long.
The free 6 p.m. Aug 21 event in the church's Family Life Center, 1318 E. Calhoun St., Plant City, is geared for older people, said Hazel Smith, leader of the seniors at Eastside.
"We'd like to invite all the seniors in the community," regardless of where they attend church, or whether they attend, Smith said. "We'll sing and eat and have a good time."
Song sheets with lyrics will be distributed, but there's no obligation to sing. "They just come and do whatever want to; they can sing or just sit and listen," Smith said.
Selections will include favorites such as "Whispering Hope," Smith said. "We sing the old ones."
Dixie Forbes-Gorby, Eastside's minister of music, will lead the singing and provide piano accompaniment.
Those who attend are asked to bring finger foods to share, and to call the church office at (813) 754-2681 by Aug. 19 so sufficient tables and chairs are set up.
