The upcoming school year in Hillsborough County has 14 half days scheduled. If the school board wanted to save money, why don't they have seven additional student days off for teacher planning or shorten the school year by seven days?
Half days are a huge waste of taxpayers' money. Students don't do anything, and the buses still run their full routes. Not to mention the hardship it causes parents, who may drive their kids to and from school or have to find someone to watch them if they are not old enough to stay by themselves.
Eliminating half days would save money in gas and be friendlier to the environment by not having the buses running. But instead they save money by taking things away from our children, such as sports.
