TAMPA - A Plant City manufacturer that built the bleachers at the University of Tampa soccer field and at football stadiums across the Tampa Bay area has been purchased by a Chattanooga, Tenn., company.
The move has the potential to bring more business to the Bay area, said Gregory Buckner, who will stay on as general manager of seating manufacturer GT Holdings.
"It means more opportunity, better financial backing, more marketing expertise," Buckner said.
GT Holdings employs 16 people and was founded eight years ago.
The purchase was announced Thursday by PlayCore Holdings of Chattanooga, a leading manufacturer of playground and youth fitness products.
PlayCore acquired three other companies in 2008 and operates the GameTime, Play & Park Structures and Ultra Play brands, as well as the Swing-N-Slide brand, TotTurf surfacing and Everlast Climbing youth fitness products.
Among the stadiums where GT Holdings has built bleachers are Middleton, Spoto, Wiregrass Ranch and Bartow high schools, and Lakeland Christian School.
