Funeral date set for boxing trainer Ben Getty

TAMPA - Funeral arrangements for boxing trainer Ben Getty have been finalized according to his son, Chris Getty.
Services will take place Thursday at Curlew Hills Funeral Home, 1717 Curlew Rd., Palm Harbor, from 2 to 4 p.m. The family will be accepting donations to help with funeral costs.
Getty, 63, was found dead Sunday. The Vietnam veteran spent the last 13 years training highly touted welterweight Keith Thurman of Clearwater. He helped guide Thurman to two national Silver Gloves championships, a 2006 national PAL champion and the 2008 U.S. Olympic boxing trials appearance in which Thurman finished second in the 152-pound weight class. Thurman finished his amateur career with 101 victories.
