On network news Monday night, a GM dealer bemoaned "the great uncertainty" of bankruptcy and the jobs lost by clerks, salesmen, janitors and others who work at the dealership.
How many times over the last 30-plus years that the dealership has been in business has she or he cried over the "deal" given a car buyer who had little idea what a reasonable price really was? As car buyers, the general public is mostly at a loss about the true cost of a vehicle. Every "bid" on an automobile is a complete gamble for the average consumer. The add-ons and hidden fees are not easily navigated. What an old-fashioned way to purchase a big-ticket item!
Having priced themselves out of the market, auto manufacturers need to revisit the business model currently in place. It's seriously broken.
